Wisconsin Requires Insurance Companies to Cover Autism
I was just browsing through the news articles in Wisconsin about Autism and Governor Doyle has not made it a requirement for insurance companies to cover the diagnosis and treatment of autism. This will lift some of the burden off the counties as the county waivers pay for the therapy for autistic kids. Now don’t quote me as I might have misread this the insurance companies will cover only the ABA Therapy, which is Applied Behavior Analysis. I don’t agree with this as other theories such as Greenspan, which is a play therapy also work to benefit autistic kids. So it’s not 100% but even if it can take the burden of those that are on the waiting list to receive services they can now get in faster.
Now back to my grumble. My son Dakota had ABA therapy. Which was a lot of repetition on things. Dakota does catch onto things really fast so he got bored really easily. We did this for a few months and I realized that ABA therapy in Dakota’s case just didn’t work. To me it seems that it’s better for kids who may be lower functioning. Not saying that it doesn’t benefit kids of higher function as those parents maybe perfectly ok and happy with it. For almost 3 years we did the Greenspan approach of play therapy. I think that did wonders for Dakota. Early intervention is the key!

Insurance companies drive me crazy sometimes. I glad to hear that! I think Insurance companies need to step up and do what is right. We pay our part they need to pay their part.

ROFL they sure do suck! Oh I will have a story by the end of the weekend about what is going on with Dakota. I am trying frustrated and angry about it. It was cool that Wisconsin was the first state in the Union that madated insurance companies. It’s about time. Our insurance went up 17%, so I feel they should mandate more thing as the rates go up and the coverage sucks!
