Update on Dakota

Well I have been waiting to write my update and I finally heard from the neurologist. The EEG was normal and actually looked good and there was a possibility of Dakota being weened off his seizure medicine. Well since he had a seizure that’s not an option anymore. They are raising his seizure med now. We will have another EEG in a year.

I have decreased one of DJ’s ADHD meds and I love how he hasn’t been so mean and argueing. The night went really good last night. Although he did shut down after school. Not sure what that was about. I don’t know if something is going on at school that he just doesn’t want to go. It’s like he doesn’t like school anymore, which before he loved going to school. He was a little hyper this morning but I can handle that I can’t handle the rough mornings and if lower his ADHD meds makes a different then I am going to keep it this way. Nothing is ever perfect.

Maybe just maybe things will start going uphill from here now. I do know that there are things that he can’t help or can’t control. I do know there are things he can control. It’s just really hard for me to identify. He is suppose to be going to a weekend program twice a month on a Saturday to help with his social issues. I haven’t heard from the place about it yet.

Dakota is doing awesome at his reading! He is very determined to get reading. He is behind a little bit but I think he is making great gains!

If you haven’t watched the video on Autism Reality please do! It’s one awesome video.

WOOT!!! Great news… I must say Stacie what child doesn’t go through not wanting to go to school…Sounds as if things will go uphill and if there is a little blip in the road, you will handle. He’s a great kid and indeed does have a super MOM!!! :)

Sounds like you get to spend a fair amount of time with doctors :( How do you keep the kids occupied while you wait? I used to pack goodie bags that had toys that only were brought out when doctor waiting. This usually helped make the time pass a bit more quickly.

Hi Audrey. At our Family Doctors they have a little play house that Brittany loves to play in. She likes to go by the little table and read the books. Sometimes she takes off running and I have to chase her. At the psychiatrist we don’t normally have long waits and they have toys or I bring some. If I have a longer appointment in Green Bay my parents sometimes will watch Brittany or if my husband isn’t working he will. Makes things easier. Dakota just shuts down at the Dr’s office right next to me. He just waits patiently.

Well, I first want to say I am sorry Dakota is still having seizures. I can only imagine how that makes you feel. Hopefully one day he will have a free and clear EEG and no activity! On a 2nd note: CONGRATS to him for reading so well! That is very exciting!

    Hi Sherri,
The seizures don’t really upset me all that much. I guess I just got used to them. The only ones that scare me are the Grand Mals. He don’t have many of them. Thankfully. I am so proud of Dakota and his reading.

My gosh, I didn’t realize it had been so long! I am sorry I haven’t been by lately, things have been crazy!
I am glad to hear the results were good, sad to hear about the seizures.
I am sure it is so hard for you. I hope you get all the medicines at a good level, for at least awhile.
