I am really excited to share with you A+ Tutorsoft Inc. I have looked for a really good math curriculum for a long time for my son. I finally found one I really like. We used the 3rd grade A+ Interactive Math Online Homeschool Edition.
Let me tell you about the program and then I will proceed to tell you how we used it. There is two sets of log ins for the online program one is for parents and the other is for students.
The parents side has recommend lesson plans. What I find as an exciting feature is the instant online grading. You can keep track manually of the scores of the worksheet and exams. You also can see what certificate your child earns from the online Q&A. You also can get progress reports that display the child’s strength and weaknesses. I also like the parental controls that allows you to lock or unlock the solution guides to the worksheets and exams. My son if he knew they were there may try to peak at the answers so he could be done faster. So I have mine set to lock. One thing I really liked before we started this program was the online placement test. Your child is placed according to the test so they gain their strengths moving on at their own pace. I didn’t use the parent side as much to be honest because I sit with my son as he is doing his math so I can help explain something as we are going if he needs it. So I see exactly what he sees and I know what his online Q&A is and his scores for the worksheets.
Now the student side has some great features as well. I like that each lesson is straight to the point. The lessons are not long. The lessons contain videos, reference material ,worksheets, and online Q&A. All of these combined make for a great learning experience. Kids can track their own progress if they want to. Also if unlocked your child can see the step by step solutions to the worksheets and exams.
Now let me explain how we used this program each day. I did one lesson at a time with my son. Anymore then that and he would be overwhelmed. I go in and I print the reference material in the lesson in case we need to refer to that while we are doing the worksheets or online Q&A. I also then print the worksheet that goes with the lesson. Then we are ready to begin with watching the video for the lesson. I like that the videos are not that long. They are straight and to the point of the lesson. I like how things are defined as well as using example. The same examples are on the printed reference material as well. Once we are done with the video we proceed on to the Q&A. I like that with each correct answer there is a big smiley face that says nice job. If the child gets the answer wrong it is explained how to get the right answer and briefly explains that part of the lesson. The last thing we do is the worksheet. The worksheets contain 10 problems. So it takes us anywhere between 20 minutes to an hour, depending on how Dakota cooperates. Our average time is mostly 20 minutes.
We have used many different math programs but this I have to say has been far the best one we have used. I have asked my son if he likes this program and he said he does. I think it’s the visual he gets from the video. I also think it’s because it sticks to the topic and doesn’t stray onto something else.
My overall thought is that this math program is a keeper.I have searched for so long to find something that works. I plan to continue to use this program now and in the future for my son as it is designed and structured well. The cost of the program is $19.95 a month or $124.95 a year. I like that you can do monthly but I also like the yearly price as well. I also would like to share that there is a special going on through the end of March. You can get 50% using this code: SPOFFER50.
The age range on this product starts from Grade 1 through Grade 6. They also have Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1.
