Therapy Changes For Dakota
We had a meeting on Wednesday with the lady from the county who oversees all of Dakota’s therapies. She is there to make sure things are running ok and rules for therapy are being followed. To make sure that Dakota gets the best out of his therapy.
Dakota has been really unhappy with the 6 hours of ABA Therapy he has been getting. We have done ABA therapy for so long that I think it is time for a change. Dakota has mentioned to me that he would rather work on school work then have the ABA Therapy. See they come in the morning from 9 – 11 three days a week and by the time school starts he already has had enough where he doesn’t work at his full potential.
During the meeting I had expressed my concerns and asked if there was something else that would be available to him. Come to find out there is something else. There is a lady that comes out to work directly with Dakota. She takes him on all different outings and works on skills that he may need. We agreed we think it would greatly benefit Dakota as he doesn’t really like to go anywhere. So to get him out in the community would be a great thing. She will also talk with me too. I wasn’t really crazy but the only time the gal can possibly be fit in is during our homeschool hours. So we will start out with one day and go from there. If we need to add more we will. I can live with one day. I can make him have a shorter day if need be. I will figure it out as this all unfolds
When I told Dakota about it he was at first happy to hear that we have discontinued the ABA Therapy. At first he wasn’t crazy about the new lady. However, I explained to him some things and he was willing to try it. He actually sounded interested in it.
I also have been doing a lot of thinking that Dakota needs more physical activity as well. I wanted to enroll him swimming and Brittany in either dance or gymnastics. The signup is now and I can’t really afford to sign them up for the classes as we had to fix the truck and rearrange finances. So for the fall signups we are going to pass. Dakota wanted to enroll in swimming.
So I remember that my parents have a YMCA membership for the kids. We are going to take advantage of the YMCA membership by utilizing the open swim times. Both the kids will benefit socially as well as the physical activity. They also have other activities that don’t cost anything through the year.
If they have a Winter session we will at that time re asses the finances and see how that works better for us. I didn’t think the prices on the classes were bad at all. I am going to see if I can get a scholaraship to the YMCA. I mine as well as I have to pay 5 dollars I think because I am not a member for open swim when I go with the kids.
I also plan on making a better structured schedule to for our homeschooling day. I want to get a dry erase board that is a calendar. If I can’t find that I will find a regular dry erase board and he can erase things as we do them.
I look forward to our new journey!
