The Wild Thornberrys Season 1 Review

On May 17th, 2011 Shout! Factory released The Wild Thornberrys Season 1 on DVD. If you didn’t know this series premiered from 1998 and aired until 2004. My oldest son grew up watching this show. I think it was one of our favorites. At least mine anyway. I love how they travel around the world CommVee looking for rare animals to film. After  an encounter with an African Shaman, their youngest child Eliza was given the gift to speak to animals.

I love the fact that this a family packed adventure for the whole family. Eliza I must say is my favorite charcter. Some might think she is geeky but she has some incredble zoological knowledge. If you notice pretty much through the whole show she is pretty much the main character. I love her gift of gab too! Her hair kind of reminds me of Pipi long stocking.

My second favorite character is Darwin the monkey or aka chimpanzee. To me he seems like Eliza’s voice of reason but she never seems to really adhere to his advice.

For my daughter I am not sure who her favorite is yet. I do know one thing she really enjoyed seeing all the different animals in the cartoons. It took us two days to watch this and she keeps asking to watch it over and over again. I love how her little mind thinks.

I liked Temple of Eliza. It started off with Eliza not feeling that she was being payed attention to so she takes off to explore around and saves a jaguar by putting a branch down so she can climb out. Well the jaguar brings the family and they want to know what they could do for her in return. They take her to a stone temple and she begins to tell them she is a princess of jaguars. They make her feel special but after a while it got old and she ran away. Then she went back to find them and they were mad she apologized and told them she was sorry for saying she was a princess but she is a better friend and they forgive her. I kind of thought it was cute. Lesson learned that people get upset when you lie. Oh and this was set in South America by the Amazon.

I have to say I highly recommend that if you have seen this that you check it out. I am so glad they brought this show back from the 90’s as it’s one I know my kids and I will enjoy for a long time. I don’t think we could ever get bored with the different adventures the Thornberrys take us an as well as Eliza herself.
