The Curiosity Files: Pufferfish – Ebook Review

I have gotten the chance to review The Curiosity Files: Pufferfish Ebook by The Old School House. In all honesty the name kind of had me curious myself. My first thought was oh those are those fish that literally puff up. I really wasn’t sure what my son was going to think about it in all honesty. I started paging through it and I was amazed by all the different learning tools. There was something in there for every kind of learner. That I must say is what impressed me the most.

In the beginning of the Ebook I had a chance to meet the odd and bizarre Professor Ana Lyze. What I found interesting was Professor Ana Lyze and her research team specialize in the obscure, the abnormal and bizarre. Their goal is to educate children about subjects they might never have found out before, gets them thinking creatively, and gives their minds exercise.

We started out be reading the wonderful information about Pufferfish. We really enjoyed it as there were things we would have never thought. At the end their was some questions that went along with the readings. There were a couple questions that I had to skip because they were a little more for older kids. I love the pictures that went along with the reading.

Did you know that in some cultures the puffer fish are a delicacy? I would have never thought that in a million years.

After the readings and the questions I had to stop as we had other things that we needed to work on to get done before the end of the year. However we are going to go back to this unit study because there are a few things still we would like to do. This summer we will be working on making a pufferfish model, we are going to make the pufferfish lapbook, do the crafts, coloring pages, and all the hands on we can. I love the suggested book list as well as links to the videos. Really there is so much there that will end up keeping us busy for awhile.

This unit study is geared towards children ranging from 8 – 13. However I do think you can tweak this for younger kids. I plan to include my daughter who is 3 when we do the pufferfish model and the other hands on activities. I also noticed that the price is very reasonable, the ebook is $6.95. Which to me is very affordable for a unit study. All ebooks sold by The Old School House Magazine come with a 7 day, 100% money back gaurentee. In all honesty I don’t think you would be disappointed with this unit because like I said earlier it has something for every kind of learner in it.

Let me go into a little more detail about what is included with this unit: (from the website)

  • Bible study and memory verses
  • Math, history, and geography investigations
  • Literature and suggested book list
  • Beautiful copy work pages (manuscript and cursive)
  • Science Observations, projects, and experiments
  • Discussion questions
  • Arts, crafts, drawing, and coloring pages
  • Lapbook and notebook pages
  • Internet and video resource links
  • Compelete Answer Key
