Taking Time For Me – Experimenting with Water Colors

The last couple weeks have been so busy for me. I don’t think I have really taken any time for me. It has been busy with making sure the house is clean, the kids homework is done for the day, ice skating, girl scouts, and doctors appointments.

I have had this incredible urge to want to paint lately. I don’t know where it’s coming from. I can’t draw to save my life. I bought some acrylic paints and some canvas. I also bought some good watercolors.

Abstract

So today I started with an easy abstract tutorial. If you click the link it will take you to the pin that I had gotten the idea from. In a way I kind of like how this turned out. You use rubber cement and watercolors. I do have to learn how to blend my colors a bit better. I don’t think it looks to bad.

Rainbow Squares

For this painting I decided I wanted to try making 6 squares that were the color of the rainbow. Then I decided to put rice on top. It didn’t give it the effect I wanted to as I didn’t wash the paper. I do kind of like how this turned out.

Rice Color Wash

Now for the one above I got my brush wet and I put just clear water all over the paper. Then I took my green water color and painted on top of the water. Once I was finished, and I was sure the paper was still wet, I sprinkled rice all over the paper. I do love the effect of the rice.

I did have fun messing around with the watercolors. The only way I am going to learn anything is diving right in and playing around. It gives me a chance to learn new things. Tomorrow I plan to paint with acrylic.

One of the artists I have been talking to told me anyone can paint. She tells me to keep painting. Practice makes perfect. I have zero talent for drawing but I have ideas in my head what I want to paint. It’s going to take me a while to get there but I can do it. If I can do it so you can you 🙂
