High Functioning Autism and Aspergers

I sit here thinking about Dakota. Dakota was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism in 2007 although a few of us question whether or not he has Aspergers. I am a little confused as back in 1994 Aspergers was referred to as High Functioning Autism and a lot of symptoms that Dakota does display do fall into Aspergers. When we go for the work up in Madison I will find out exactly where he is on the spectrum. Not that it really matters to me as with or with out the label Dakota is my sweet loving, complicated boy.

Autism Reality

I wanted to share this with all of you it is one of the best videos I have seen. I went on a mission today catching up on my blog reading and on another autism site they asked that we each share this. Being that Dakota has autism I am sharing it too.

Autistic Kids and Food: Does Food Affect Kids, Really?

I am doing a 4 part series to this on Family Foodies blog for the intern ship I am in. I would really like to hear feed back on this. So please take a look at the first part of the article I have written titled Autistic Kids and Food: Does Food Affect Kids, Really?

Part 2: Autistic Kids and Food: A Link To Food Intolerance

What do you do when you have had enough?

I think I have some real big emotions going over the last few days. The last two days have been really rough. I actually broke down crying with frustration. It comes a time where you feel like giving up as you feel like a failure. Granted I would never give up.

I suppose your wondering where this is all coming from. The last two mornings with Dakota have been rough. Yesterday I can’t really remember. I know that he really hurt my feelings and I felt like walking out the door and not coming back. Please don’t think I would. I had a great cry. My husband said to my son are you happy you made your mother cry. My son wanted to give me a hug. I just needed my space and said just give me a little time. He ran off crying.

Educating Kids about Autism

I sat thinking and pondering this morning. Still ticked about the bullying issue with my son. There are several autistic kids in the school. I am wondering am I out of line if I talk to the principal to see if I can get in the lower grades classroom to talk to the kids on their level about autism? There was a huge park issues this summer and I talked to the kids and it worked.

Just wondering your thoughts!
