Autism, Stress, School, Can I Win?
I am so very upset and frustrated as I write this post. I am hoping that someone who is in my shoes and dealing with autism or even a special needs child can give me some adivce or tell me your in the same shoes.
This morning I took Dakota to school. When we get to school it’s always my throat hurts and my tummy really hurts. Well I started asking what makes him so upset about coming to school. His response was I miss you, Brittany, and Sugar Bear. I explained to him that he had to be in school. Well then the nail biting began. He is so full of anxiety and stress his nails are really bitten down.
More Bullying and More Germies Setting Camp
Well I got a call from Dakota’s teacher today. The boy Dakota has been having a conflict with had another issue at school. We don’t know exactly what started it. One of the kids that told the teacher said that Dakota said to the kid He was annoying him and the other kid punched him. That came from a kid who stuck up for Dakota.
Now Dakota said that the boy wanted to play guns and he said NO. His said his teacher said we can’t play that in school. I couldn’t understand what else Dakota was telling me as his speech was not clear. I know that the kid punched Dakota in the arm.
How Did I Know My Son Had Autism?
I get a lot of questions about how I knew Dakota had autism and when did we see the first signs. Honestly I don’t remember how the word Autism ever came up. I don’t remember if my husband said something to me that caused me to search Autism. I really don’t remember.
When Dakota was little he use to bang his head a lot for no reason at all. That became a concern to use so we brought it up to our pediatrician at the time. We had him checked many times for an ear infection and most of the time he didn’t have any. So we just chalked that up to maybe a behavior of some sort.
Flu Bug Vs Dakota
Saturday night or should I say early Sunday morning, It was a little after 1 AM when I was about to go to bed. Dakota had waken up and said he was going to get a drink. He comes back to lay down and gets up again. Didn’t say anything. All of a sudden I heard to be what I thought was throwing up all over my hallway and kitchen floor. This went on for a couple hours. Poor kid tried to lay in his bed and threw up in his bed. So he had to try to sleep on the couch. Well he never was able to get back to sleep.
Tap To Talk – Guest Blogger Tammy
Hi All! I had asked Tammy from Autism Learning Felt to talk about Tap To Talk which is a communication system that lets non verbal children be heard. Since my son is verbal I won’t be able to review this product and I wanted to share it with some of my readers that may not know about it. Tammy thank you for taking the time to write this post up for me. I greatly appreciate it.
