Swine Flu – Hog Wash

Yesterday I read about someone I know that supposively had the full blown swine flue. My neighbor said that she had it too. Well I am not convinced either of them have had it. First off they didn’t get tested and secondly they weren’t give the anti biotics.

So being as I was curious I asked the office how long someone had to remain in quarintine if they had the swine flu. She said that’s up to the doctor. There have been NO reports in the county here.

The doctors are assuming that everyone that walks through the door has swine flu. They said it’s not peak season for the influenza. They also said the test is expensive. Because it’s not peak season for influenza they are not testing.

Well I just don’t agree with that. I think they are putting more scare out to the public. I also think it’s a scare tactic for people to get the vaccine. Well let me tell you I am NOT afraid and I am NOT getting vaccinated.

I have heard to many bad things about the vaccination but I am not going to rant about that.

I think it’s unprofessional for Doctors to ASSUME. I think it’s wrong that insurance companies won’t pay for the testing. Why do they get to dictate what they will and won’t pay for. After all we all are already paying an arm and leg for insurance, copays and so forth!

Ok I am climbing off my soap box!

I always get the flu shot, have never had any trouble, and never known anyone to have any trouble with it. People go berserk. You can not get the flu from the vaccine. Getting the vaccine is not a scare tactic it’s preventative medicine, which cost us all less than treated people after they’ve gotten sick.

The trouble with the vaccine, regular flu; is that they never make enough of it. This is the first year in about 10; I’ve not been able to get it. Between my work schedule, when stores where giving it, and when they ran out of it. I come in contact with about 150 people daily due to my job; so to me it makes good common sense to get it.

I hope you stay health. The Swine flu is in a whole different category then the normal year to year flu. I’m not in the high risk area, and so can’t get it; but for folks who need it…I hope they made enough of it.

Insurance companies have always made those decision, which is why they keep making money when they rest of us aren’t.

LOL isn’t that the truth Sandy. When I get the flu shot I end up sick. Now my mom on the other can get the flu shot and she doesn’t get sick. So I just don’t get the flu shot. I stay healthy for the most part. I didn’t like what I heard about the H1N1. I am not against vaccines as they have done good things to stop the spread of many things. This is just one I am sitting out of. I didn’t know they were limiting to whom could receive the flu shot. I thought it was open to anyone.

I am with you, Stacie. I refuse to get a vaccine that they only have had negative experience with, no proof of anything truly positive. Quite frankly, they can’t even prove that it does in fact work effectively. And I am terrified of what it could do to my kiddo’s. If people would take care of themselves and their kids and get into the dr. before waiting before their kids are falling down ill, then I am not sure it would be as big of a thing.

Exactly or the parents keeping their child home from school when they are sick. I did hear something on the news I don’t remember what day but a healthy young girl got the H1N1 vaccines and now has some neurological disorder. I know the CDC has alerted 600 neurologists to be on the look out for something the vaccine may cause but they have this thing were there is a no fault policy on this vaccine and that tells me it’s not safe. If it was safe why would they need a no fault policy. Who knows maybe something just didn’t agree with something in her body. I don’t know. That really terrified me. I can’t remember the name of the neurological disorder they are to watch for if I am not mistaken it starts with a B.

I agree with you! I think people are making themselves sick, you know the whole paranoia thing? Also the little 5 year old girl who died was out here and people were losing their minds for a bit. Then there was a mess of kids who all got sick after going to 6th grade camp and people were losing their minds over that. I understand it can be deadly, but the over-panic needs to stop.

It’s just like the regular flu and people die from the regular flu every year if not more. They also have to look into health histories and was she sick before they can blame the H1N1 virus. I think the media makes things worse then they are. There was an outbreak in the late 70′s early 80′s but I don’t know much about that. I know the vaccine back then wasn’t good. I guess I had it and I turned out fine. I will not do it this time around. It’s crazy!

My entire family did have it in the spring. (they tested positive) I was the only person out of 11 in my home that didn’t get it. UGH!

It really was no worse than the regular flu and was only really a danger for my youngest son Will, who has pretty bad asthma and CP.

We were quaranteened for 2 weeks.

That being said, we won’t be getting the flu shot either.

It is great to hear from someone who actually had it. It’s great they did the testing. Here for some reason they are not. I was wondering how long one had to be isolated from everyone else. Hope you all are feeling better.

There is so much controversy with the H1N1 virus. The only thing that bothers me is that it is hitting our children. We have had 81 deaths in the USA this season according to the CDC.It is a dam if you do dam if you don’t situation. It is a judgment call all parents have to make.As for the regular flu.I always get a shot. This year my wife and I were both a little sick for a few days.I have been getting the shot for about ten years now.I haven’t had the flu. Some people do have reactions and can not take it.Again a judgment call.We all have to decide.Have a good day.

Russ you are exactly right. I have said the same thing. Darned if you do and darned if you don’t. Your right there is so much controversy going on about it. People die from the influenza too. It’s a really tough decision to make especially when you want to protect kids but you don’t like what your hearing. I am one of them that have reactions to the flu shot. No mom on the other hand doesn’t. We really don’t get the flu. Thankfully. Knock on wood! LOL.

I am right there with you Stacie! They sent over 300 kids from a high school about 10 miles away from our house…all with Swine Flu! WHAT? since when are they DRS…c’mon…..we are just now getting the vaccines here in Wichita…and its a complete MESS! I am SO sick of it….

I will NOT be giving my kids any flu shots…ever! Luck for us No eggs…and really when you get right down to it…I don’t like the ingredient list one bit! There are things in there…well…I won’t get on a soap box here…but seriously….I have had enought! And I can say that because Kathleen Sebelious (she used to be our GVR and now runs the Health for the US gov..) makes me sick! I have personally met her….we go way back….ok enought.

Bottom line…scaring parents into getting vaccines is wrong on so many levels. No go around and tell people I have the flu when you didn’t even GO To the dr! :D

Holy wowsers the school is sending them home saying they have the swine flu. CRAZY!! That’s just as bad as the doctors here. Brad came home tonight and said they are talking about possibly shutting down the high school am not sure about the elementary school. Between the two there are over 100 kids out sick. How can they make any kind of diagnosis without testing. Supposively one of the teachers said there is now 1 confirmed case. Which as of yesterday there was no cases. I am so sick of it.
