I worked with these special children for a while and I think the biggest struggle is how some of them turn over-sensitive. I think its because of emotions that are hard to understand for them. I know this particular boy who almost never laughs not smile. It was only when a male visitor volunteered for a day and that person made him smile just for carrying him. It was such a beautiful sight.

I can definitely relate to some of the feelings your son must be experience. As a kid I was painfully shy. It's definitely been my biggest struggle in life. I'm very introverted; I didn't enjoy going to parties, or being in a large groups, or talking in public, or giving speeches.

I am pleased to say I'm not "shy" any more...I'm just quiet. Although a lot the above situations I mentioned still make me uncomfortable, I have learned to deal with them and socialize more. Even an introvert needs friends :)

That's true people on the outside don't know or understand what the issues really are. It's really sad in a way. It's frustrating as they look at you in terms of a bad parent or not discipline enough. It's hard enough to pick and choose the battles. Thanks for stopping by.

I have a child with special needs as well. People think he has "anger issues". They don't understand how frustrating it is to him just to get through the day, working so hard to accomplish things that are no sweat for most people. I am still working hard to help him to become more at ease with his emotions.
BTW, welcome to cc3@mbc. I look forward to seeing much more of your lovely blog.
