SchoolhouseTeachers.com Review – Great Resource For Homeschoolers

I am so excited to share my first review from the TOS Homeschool Crew with you. I was recently reintroduced with SchoolhouseTeachers.com which is owned by The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. I must say that I am in love with this site.

When I first had the chance to look over the website and really pay attention I was in awe. You can find curriculum for Preschool all the way through High School. You can use this website as you’re whole year of curriculum or supplement into what your already learning. You can find 25 different subjects that contain teaching videos, lesson plans, worksheets, lapbooks, unit studies, writing prompts, and other assignments. A bonus perk is every month you’re a member you build your library with a free ebook.

My favorite part of SchoolhouseTeachers.com is the Dailies. That is what I found myself to use with my my two kiddos.

We started with the Everyday Copywork. I love the concept of this. It has a few sentences and at the top your child can trace the letters to write the sentence. The next part is printed and your child can copy the printed work. The next part is tracing the cursive sentences. The next part is copy the cursive sentences.

The tracing of printed letters didn’t work well for my preschool daughter at this point in time as I think the arrows around the letters caused a little confusion. But I do plan on reintroducing that back to her at a later time. However, she is a little sponge and she can copy letters free hand so maybe by the time I get to it with her she will already be copying the words.

I also used the copy work with my son and I think it’s perfect for him as well as he has trouble with fine motor and writing so the tracing part I think is awesome for him and I like the arrows on the letters for him because it reminds him where the formation of the letters are. I also have him copy the print work also.

We then moved on to Spelling. For my daughter I used the Preschool/Kindergarten level. I really was quite impressed with it to be honest. The first day I read the words to her and pointed to her list and had her repeat them to me. I liked how the next part of was to read her sentences about what the word meant. Then each day from there it was a different activity for the week. My favorite part of that week was she had to draw her spelling words.

I used the Lower Elementary Spelling with my son. This week the kids were working on plurals. I really like how it’s not to0 hard yet it’s not super simple either. There is a little thinking involved and I love that they use the words during the week. One of the days my son had to fill in the missing letters to complete the words. I like how each day your words are on each lesson.

With my son I also used the Daily Grammer which we are working on common and proper nouns.

Now some of the things we haven’t used that I do intend to incorporate into our school day is: Everyday Games, Everyday Astronomy, Everyday Explorers, Ditch the Desk Hands on K – 5, lapbooks, and Elementary Literature Kits.

Even though I am in love with this site I think that for example when your looking for things in the dailies it would be nice if there was a index so you didn’t have to press the past post buttons. It would make it a whole lot easier if your like me and want to start at the beginning so you don’t miss one spectacular lesson.

You can try your first month subscription for a $1 and then each month there after is $5.95.

Thank you. It was kind of cute as we were working on it. She looks at me and says Mommy how do I draw this or that. So on another piece of paper I had to draw it for it and she copied on her spelling worksheet 🙂 I am so proud of her for trying.
