School Update

Well I was going to post my email to the teacher and special ed teacher but I won’t. It was a freaking joke. I am so glad that I contacted the special ed director today. He was very nice.

I explained to him the things that have been going on the last couple weeks. He suggested doing half days temporarily.

So starting next Monday He will start school at 11:50 for that week. The following week he starts at 10. Then they are off one week. When they start again he will start at 9AM. Then the following week he will start at the normal time.

So for one month they are going to change things. I am really not sure that adding to his time like this is the answer. We will have an IEP meeting on the 7th of April to see how things are going and make more changes if we have too. I think that adding to his day so fast like that isn’t the answer but I would try it and see.

I think it’s going to make matters worse but lets try it. So for this week he is going to finish out a full day.

Sorry about the rant in the last post. This sounds as if someone might be on the right track. I take it you sent the email and got nothing but what you are going through in response? pffft

Well I got a response that they are taking me seriously however she didn’t address anything nor did she offer anything. The more I think about what they are offering at the moment I sit and laugh because they end up putting back into the same situation he was in, in the first place. Seriously what do they think they are going to accomplish that he likes coming to school or something? I am disgusted actually. I am waiting for the inhome counselor to call me. I sent her a text earlier. I know she is at a conference today and has a couple hour drive back. I was hoping she would call on her way home. But we have had some really dense fog in the state the whole day. It’s still foggy out. Not sure else where. Don’t be sorry about the rant! When I heard half days I didn’t think they were going to shorten them then extend them again to put them in the same position. I think it’s going to make things worse if you want my honest opinion. My case manager really didn’t comment on her thoughts. I said all we can do is try and she said that’s true. But I think trying this is a joke and it’s going to make things worse.

As I was reading, I was thinking that it was fast too.

That’s what the census is saying of all I talked to so far. I haven’t talked to the in home counselor. Wonder what Dakota’s case manager thought exactly. She was just too quiet about it. Normally she has something to say. All the case manager is, is a person who overseas what stuff is going on for the autism waiver he is on.

I wish you all the best on this journey. My son is not autistic, but he does have ADHD. Although they are very different diagnosis, we are having some trouble with him in school. I hope that your family is able to find a happy medium for your son. Good luck.

Thanks Krisit. Dakota does have ADHD also and my oldest son did too. It was a struggle with my sons IEPs too. One way or another things are going to work out. I really believe it will.I hope that your troubles with school get solved too.

What a mess. Just know that your efforts to find what is right for him are commendable. I know from experience how hard it is to fight the system. Just keep advocating, it’s all you can do. Stay strong.

Vixen it sure is one big mess. I will never stop advocating all there are times I feel like I am hitting a wall. I don’t always have the answers but what they are doing is just ridiculous.

Hmmm….I don’t know at ALL about what will work and what won’t but this seems kind of like it may delay the inevitable of him having struggles again. Seems like he will just be getting used to a schedule when it changes again. I hope it helps though!

Is it wrong that I think the school system is NOT thinking of the BEST interest for Dakota? Its like they are hell bent on NOT bending the rules to help this child! Ugh…..I can ONLY imagine how frustrated you are as his mother :( I too wonder why changing this time for him would really work? I mean they are giving him a tiny break but then what happens when it goes back to normal after a month? I agree June does seem FAR away :( Poor Dakota! I did start to research homeschool as a back up for Gannon. If this new IEP goes south nxt year(when school starts back up in August) I will pull him. They know that. And pretty much have begged me NOT to pull him…so I am making them jump thru all kinds of hoops but you knw what, tey should! They weren’t doing enough for him in my mind!

No Sherri I don’t think your wrong. I am so frustrated and just so disgusted. I am really trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but when things get worse I get stressed and I can’t stand seeing him like this.
