My Autistic Son

My sons autism was flagged at 10 1/2 months. He lost some speech, wasn’t responding to his name, didn’t like to be around outsiders, had seizures, rocked, and head banged. By a year and half he was diagnosed with PDD NOS. We went through many kinds of intensive autism therapies. Well 3 companies I should say. And I saw progression and regression. I get so excited when we make progress and sometimes get upset when we fall a couple steps behind. When we started the autism therapy he was re evaluated and diagnosed with just Autism. While in school I had him re evaluated again because I was thinking and leaning towards Aspergers. But the Neuro Psychologist said he had high functioning autism. We went through behaviors of lining things up, he would scratch his brother for no reason, as well as many other things. While in school I saw him do nothing but regress with a full day and the school didn’t work well enough with me and I felt they were under educated about autsim. I homeschooled him for 2 years and he still regressed. I put him back in school and he seems to enjoy it. He is actually socializing more. Although he needs to learn how to play with others. He needs to understand that people don’t always want to play his way. He doesn’t know how to take a joke as he thinks people are picking on him. Now we are dealing with behaviors of talking back, slamming the door, screaming at the top of his lungs. He doesn’t process directions really fast. So that’s Dakota’s story in a nut shell. Have questions just ask. You want to share your story. Please do. Have a great day!
