Monday Again…

Author: Well the weekend went by too fast. This morning I was thinking about Dakota again. I live in a small town where the hours of the pharmacy on the weekend are really wacky. They close at noon. Well I forgot to go and pick up Dakota’s meds. I only had one dose left at this point so I saved them for this morning. Was rather interesting. As the last visit with the Doctor I asked if the meds could have caused some of the behavior issues. Well wouldn’t you know it… I made an observation. He was more happy, willing to do things, still his sassy self (behaviors we need to modify), but he wasn’t that grouchy, irritated boy. So now it really makes me wonder if a portion of the behaviors are from the meds. I know I have lots of behaviors to work with that. They don’t want to change the meds until August. I also noticed that without his night time dose he really can’t fall asleep. I am not really crazy about the meds he is on. I am hoping that we can cut down on some in August. It just has me wondering now.
We got to school and his little friend tried to talk to him and he just kept on walking. Once again I had to tell him that he was being talked to and should of said hello. Makes me sad in a way when I see that. He gave me a hug and I left.
I wonder what the rest of the day is going to be like…

I don’t have experience with the autism world, but I’ve heard a lot of people say the same thing. I sure hope the meds can be adjusted that will be more beneficial to him.

Thanks Karen. Well it’s nice to know I am not the only one thinking about the meds. I know he has behavior problems that need to be changed but the little difference it did make seriously has me thinking. Hope you have a good Monday!
Interesting about meds. Soemtimes I think they do more harm than good. Maybe when his fried comes up because he’s with his mom he doesn’t want think he’s acting like a baby or something. I know that’s far fetched idea but maybe it has something to do with you being around when his friend comes up. Would be interesting to know how he reacts with the friend during the school day…it’s sorta obvious to me that they seem to know each other if the boy keeps saying hello…he’ll get there…maybe take some time but I bet he does.

I think that way too about the medicines. I am going to call the peditrician later this morning and let them know what I observed since I need another refill on another med. I really don’t know what it is. He can interact sometimes he just doesn’t know how. I won’t give up working on it though
