Things with Dakota have been really tough lately. I thought things were going well for a while and then well we take a step ahead and fall two steps behind. The last week or two has been rough. There are times mornings are difficult as he doesn’t want to get ready for school. There are many little temper flare ups. Lots of screaming and yelling and what feels like talking back.

I have been so frustrated lately with the behavior. I was reminded yesterday that some of the behaviors he can’t control. I know that but how do you sit and identify it. You can’t we just go with the flow and deal with it. After the holidays I am going to start a strict morning routine with him. I am also going to change what he does after school too. It’s going to be rough but we will get through it and things will get better.

Yesterday Dakota was really off. We had a very rough morning. It started with a school delay because of the freezing rain. I took him to school and he said that he thought he was going to puke. Well he looked ok and he didn’t have a fever so I said if you don’t feel good let your teacher know and I will pick you up. We walked into the classroom and there was substitute teacher. He went in and he was fine. I picked him up from school and asked how he did. She said that he had his head down for most of the day and that at the end he was starting to be cooperative. She mentioned that he said his eyes hurt too. Well his eyes were red. We then went to the pharmacy and then home.

I made Dakota take a shower as he was just filthy. He did eat some corndogs last night. He also did his homework really nice with me. A few outbursts but nothing we couldn’t get through. About 6 or 6:30 he fell asleep. I thought about it. Either he is sick or he is stressed out from his day and he shut down. About 8 I woke him up to give him his pills. His eyes looked like they were on fire they were red. He looked at me and stared right through me. He was unresponsive. I kept calling his name over and over trying to get him to come out of it. He did. His pupils were HUGE!! Then he went right back to sleep.

I woke up this morning and decided to let him sleep. It was about 7:30 and he finally woke up. He said his eyes, throat, and head hurt. Well the headache would come if he had a seizure. I am pretty sure he had a small seizure last night. Which I haven’t seen these little ones in a very long time. I didn’t panic as I know the little ones don’t hurt him. I am waiting for the Doctor’s to call me back this morning.

I called the school nurse today and we talked this morning and I let her know about last night and I asked how he was. She said the substitute teacher did let her know how he was yesterday. I thought that was awesome. Neither one of us really saw how he was yesterday so I can’t say that he had seizures at school. It is raising some concern how he was at school.

I am still waiting for the EEG results. I am going to try to call the neurologists office this morning and let them know that he had a small seizure. The nurse from the neurologists office will call me back. Brittany’s EEG is scheduled for Monday.

Hope you all have a great day!

The poor little boy. My heart is heavy when I read he has days like this. I’ll be anxious to hear of the EEG results as well. Keep strong my friend and please give him a hug for me :) Aloha

The behavior part is the only things that is frustrating. These little seizures aren’t a serious thing unless they become Chronic. They can’t hurt him. I will update later. I am still waiting for the neurologists office to call me back.

Things have been fine Anne! This seizure wasn’t serious at all. He is doing great! He is just relaxing being Dakota. LOL

Thanks Sherri! Funny that when Dakota had it I did not panic. The little ones don’t scare me like the big ones do. Thankfully he hasn’t had a big one now for 2 – 3 years that I know of. Brittany goes for her EEG on Monday.

Oh, Stacie. I’m sorry I haven’t been around to help give you some support. I wish I had somthing to say to make you feel better or help Dakota. Dean doesn’t have seizures, so I don’t have any advice. I hope you get some answers soon. Not knowing is so hard.

Thanks Tammy. Actually I found out today that the EEG was normal and looked really good. However now that he had a seizure the thoughts of weening him off the medicines is not possible. They are increasing his meds now. He hasn’t had a seizure in a while so it was kind of a freak thing.
