I Even Funnier is the side-splitting second installment in James Patterson’s hilarious #1 New York Times bestselling series for kids.
Middle schooler Jamie Grimm has big dreams of being a stand-up comic and he’s not about to let anything get in his way of making his dreams come true! In this second book in the series, Jamie is off to the state finals in the Planet’s Funniest Kid Comic Contest, but there’s another kid who thinks he’s a million times funnier then Jamie…who will win?

I received the first book and the second book in this series. My son and I started with the second book first as I wanted to finish it before I put up my review. I have to be honest here we only made it half way through the book, as we got busy with Thanksgiving and the upcoming holidays. I can tell you that this book is absolutely hilarious!
This book is meant for both boys and girls, if your child don’t like to read (my son is really picky about chapter books) then this would be the perfect series for them. The chapters are short and sweet and there is pictures through the books with jokes on them. They really illustrate the parts of the story.
My son and I are reading this together. I read a chapter and he reads a chapter. We pause as he has to look at the pictures and read the jokes to himself on the pages before he proceeds. There is one thing different about Jamie is that he is in a wheel chair. I like how he can make light of things in his life and not let it get to him.
My favorite part of the story was when the school bully wouldn’t get out of Jamie’s way and Jamie was bound and determined to go through the bully only he swerved and missed him. If I were in his shoes I probably would have done the same thing. I didn’t like that he was bullied but I liked the imagination that went through his head at the time. I also like how Jamie practices his jokes with his uncle. I like how he says he is going to use real life experiences. Sometimes in the hardest situations making light of what we have been through is what gets us through.
My son and I personally feel Jamie is hilarious and has a great imagination. We can’t wait to find who wins the the state finals. Even if I did finish the book I couldn’t tell you the ending as I wouldn’t want the book to be spoiled.
I must admit before this review I had no idea that James Patterson wrote books for middle school ages. I only knew of him for his adult books. So I was rather impressed to see a famous adult writer, write a series for kids.
This book is for ages 7 and up and will be releasing Monday December 9th, 2013.
I highly recommend this series. If it can get my son who doesn’t like reading to want to read and find out what happens next, that means it’s definitely a winner.
