Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 Review

Hey Mama Review

Hot off the presses, and just in time, I’m ready to get started planning our new school year with the new Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 from The Old Schoolhouse. I need to physically see what I have planned written in front of me to be able to accomplish and hold myself accountable for the things that need to get done. It also gives the kids a great visual.

Monthly Notes

There is so much to love about this planner! This planner is full of calendars, lists and charts. It’s also full of tips, and devotions that will encourage you. I love that there a nice Hey Mama encouraging page for each month. I found them to be very encouraging and you can go back to them at any time! Each month you have a section across from the encouragement for notes. I started using ours for July already to plan what activity the kids wanted to do each day. It gave them a chance to add something that they were interested in learning. I am not sure how I am going to use the rest of them. I may keep notes to myself each month on the progress or use it to change things if the kids decided they want to add in things or change what they are working on.

Monthly Calendar

You will also see big calendar squares for the month as well. I find that those will be a big help to me when I start putting in our field trips, appointments, and extra curricular activities on the calendar. It’s easier for me to see them all in once place.

Then you get right down to the planning with Week of:, where you can lay out your lesson plans for that week. For me I have to plan out each week. That way the kids can see what they are going to work on and I can be held accountable to make sure it is all done. I like doing things this way as it also gives the kids a visual of what they have to do that do or for the week as well.

I like the Monthly goals as well. I like how things are broken down into: educational, spiritual, physical, personal talents, life skills, financial, and relational.I absolutely love how this is broken down. It will be great to see how some of my goals turn out each month. It will be great to go back to at a later date to see if these goals were met and how many goals we accomplished through the year. The one I like the most is Life Skills. That will help me keep track of what my son is working on and what goal we need to see accomplished. There is also a section for semester goals and yearly goals. Those will require me to do some thinking as I am not sure what I want those to be.

There is an attendance chart. I love the fact that we can check it off each day. That will give me a good visual to see if we will have to go through the summer next year or not. We are starting our new school year July 1st. I need that extra cushion in case something comes up. Oct-Dec seem to be the busiest months for us. That’s when the kids get sick a lot and the holidays are coming.

I am really excited about being able to keep a list of the Books Read This Year as well. I will be curious to see who is reading more, my son or daughter. I have been taking them to the book store every couple weeks for new books. My daughter seem to blow right through them as she loves reading.

Another one of my favorites is the Curriculum Planning Sheets. Since I purchase all my stuff at tax time, I will be able to look at this and see what I have written down for possible curriculum or things I need to replace. I hate to say this but I am such a curriculum junkie! I am always finding new things that I think might interest the kids. So this will be handy for me.

In the rest of the planner are nice bonuses: such as writing prompts, story starters, thirteen colonies by date, timelines of inventions, Presidents and their Wives, Branches of Government, States and Capitals. There is also a how to create academic transcripts, which I am going to need to do starting this year with my son. I wasn’t sure what they looked like. Honestly I am not ready for it but I have to be.

My Overall Thought:

This is such an amazing planner. There are so many benefits to keeping one as well as all the perks that go into this planner. It is definitely not a plain jane planner! I highly suggest checking it out. Planning things out helps you stay organized. This will definitely help.
