Favorite Part of Homeschooling – Lapbooking

My kids are the type of kids that have to be busy and hands on. I know that lapbooks, well some of them are ALOT of writing and others not so much. My kids seem to really enjoy them. I have really struggled with finding a good science and social studies/history curriculum.

These have been a life savor to me as my kids aren’t bored with the worksheets or work books. They get to cute and paste and even write answers. It keeps them busy and moving.

We tried using Apologia Science this year. My son absolutely does not like it. It is a lot more reading and I even tried to break down the suggested lessons but it was still to much. Not enough hands on. I have my eye on a website that has experiments and videos that I might purchase for next year. I think a couple people suggested Nancy Larson Science. I still have to look into that.

Recently I just started a Amanda Bennett Unit Study on Chocolate to use for history. My son and I are really into it. There can be lots of writing at times and then at other times not so much so that balances out. I am thinking of doing more of the Unit Studies for different Countries next year.

I have used lapbooks for Reading to go along with books we read. Some are free and some are not. I also have used lapbooks for social studies and history. I find that they really work. I might even consider making my own lapbooks with some freebies and some to sell on currclick.

Soon I will be purchasing a Lapbook from A Journey Through Learning to go with a book we will be reading for Literature. So as of this moment my son has no current lapbooks he is working on.

My daughter is working on the alphabet and we are making a lapbook for each letter. The lapbooks are coming from Homeschool Share. She seems to really like them a lot. So far it has really helped her with her letters.

My three favorite place to get lapbooks are Homeschool Share, A Journey Through Learning, and Homeschool Bits.

Homeschool Share has many different lapbooks for many different subjects and best of all they are free.

A Journey Through Learning has fantastic lapbooks and they have great study guides in them. Where you read a little and then do part of your lapbook and repeat.

Homeschool Bits touches a topic and they are speedy lapbooks that you can get done in a day or two.

What do you use for science and social studies/history?

I just bought some file folders from the dollar store for use as lapbooks… I think my daughter will love creating them for various subjects in Kindergarten. πŸ™‚ I want to keep things fun for her and she is crazy for crafts right now – if I hand her a glue stick she is the happiest person in the world. πŸ™‚
