Dakota and a EEG

Good Morning! It’s been a while since I talked about what was going on with Dakota. Last week I had a meeting with the case worker for the county who over sees Dakota’s case being on the waiver program. She brought a program that will kind of work on his social needs and socialization. I didn’t think that going after school during the week was right for the time being as Dakota is really set in his ways about his routine with going to school and coming home.

This program also does a Saturday Fun Day type of thing. They do activities and go places and play and I thought the twice a month on a Saturday might be a great place to start. There is other kids with disabilities from a wide range so he wouldn’t be the only one with autism. We shall see how he likes it. We will be waiting for them to call and waiting to go and see it ourselves before we make the final decision.

I am very frustrated with how often Dakota has a fever. It’s like once or twice a week he has a fever and he is missing school. When I took Brittany in last week I asked why does this kid have so many fevers. She said it’s possible that he is getting virus after virus. You know that just seems to weird for me and not really a good answer. The only other symptoms that I can see are headaches and his chest hurts. I don’t know why his chest would be hurting unless he is having anxiety. I asked him to show me where and well it’s about the same place I get my anxiety attacks so I will be asking the Doctor next time we see him for his meds and see if that is possible.

Friday we go for an EEG. The EEG was originally for December 14th and was just a routine check up to see how things are going. I am not very optimistic that the EEG will be normal. I am not saying that in a bad way. Autism and Seizures go hand in hand. I don’t think they ever caught a seizure on the EEG but they have always seen the activity there. The activity doesn’t mean it’s seizures it can produce a seizure at any time. Thankfully I haven’t seen any. The seizures he did have he had in his sleep and I was just in the right place at the right time when I seen them. He did have small blinking seizures a long time ago. The neurologists nurse feels that it’s worth moving the EEG up as that way we can rule out any more seizures which could be the cause of his headache. I won’t get the results of the EEG right away as the neurologist is out until august finishing up some internship at the mayo clinic. He still reads the EEGS though. So that is a good thing.

I am trying very hard to get to the bottom of everything. I want answers. If the eeg doesn’t tell me anything that I don’t already know and there is no new seizures then I am going back to the doctors the next time he has a headache as he gets them chronically and I will see what our next step is. I am also going to get his eyes checked out. To make sure that there is no problems there causing it.

I still have to check with my insurance and get something in writing on if they cover autism or not. The psychiatrist recommended we see someone who specializes in autism and social behaviors so that we could work on that. Well I don’t know if that was looked into by my case manager or not. I don’t remember.

So that’s my update on Dakota.

I’ve just recovered from high fever myself. My body weight dropped drastically, but the virus can’t stop me from enjoying my life. God will makes everything happened for your good, Stacie. Just believe.

Poor guy! I hope you find what is going on with him. Headaches and stomachaches are one thing, but I would be really concerned about the fever too.

My son also gets a lot of phantom fevers. They are usually low grade, but still there. We went the same route…EEGs, allergy testing, eye exams, etc. So far nothing is coming up. I guess that’s a good thing.

You’re doing all the right things. Sounds like you’re doing a great job mom.

Well I am glad I am not along. I guess if I find nothing then I have to chalk it up to stress maybe I don’t know. Well the EEG was routine for us but they moved it up to check for sub clinical seizures because of the headaches. I don’t know how much info they got because the little stinker was fighting sleep. He didn’t want to sleep during the eeg. I haven’t heard the results yet. Not sure when I will as the neurologist is working on a fellowship at the mayo clinic until like July. He still reads the eeg and is here once every couple months for I don’t remember. So I am patiently waiting. LOL
