Commissioned – Game Review

Does your family like board games? My kids love playing board games. We try to make a night each week to have a little family time and take a break from all the electronics. I am really excited to share a brand new game called Commissioned by Chara Games. This game has a christian theme and is best suited for teens and adults.

Commissioned is a game where you are put in the shoes of the Apostles in the earliest of times. Don’t worry you don’t have to know about religion to play this game. You can have between 2 – 6 players. Each person picks an Apostle to be during the game. Each Apostle has a special attribute to the game. There are 5 different scenarios to play, with two different difficulty levels to choose from. The theme is early church working and you will overcome obstacles in that storyline. It’s actually really interesting as you over come some of the obstacles and persecutions during that time. The goal of the game is to collect all the books in the New Testament before the time runs. The scenarios or story lines cover the first 150 years of church history.

How We Used This:

We played this as a family, as well as with some friends from church. The first time we played it it was with our friends. We started setting it up and at first got really confused. I knew there was a video but we were trying hard not to use as I thought us adults could put our heads together and figure it out. We brought of the how to play video and had trouble seeing it as the size of our phone is smaller so we did put the game away and tried it another day. I needed to be able to see the how to play video on a bigger screen so I could actually see everything that was being explained. I think we were pretty darn close to having the game set up the first time. After watching the video it made more sense. In the picture above we were starting to set up the game. The colored pawns do not go where they are shown in the picture. The faith cards are put up at the top.

Our first game was a little difficult as it took some time to get use to. After we had the chance to play it a couple times it was actually really fun.

The game board itself is absolutely gorgeous. It is like things are popping right out at you. All the graphics on the Apostle cards are beautiful done. I love the wood pieces as well! I was really impressed with the look of the game in general.

I personally thought that way the mechanics are in the game really connect to the theme, by theme I mean the storyline or scenario you are given for that particular game. I love the fact that this wasn’t competitive, as you had to work together for the common goal.

3 Seeds is another game that is being released but the production was not completed in time for this review. 3 Seeds is a 2 – 5 player game. The game is expected to take about 30 – 45 minutes to play. It a strategic card game. The players use what are called seed cards to complete crops, employ special event cards to gain bonuses, and uncover hidden harvest cards to maximize their points. The cards you use are time, money, and labor. It seems like a very interesting game. The video explains the game in more detail where it makes a lot of sense.
