Christmas Window and Mommy’s Little Abstract Artist

When I was taking some college credits for my Business Degree, one of the classes I had to take was art. I never thought I would really enjoy it or appreciate as much as I do now. I truly really do appreciate it a lot more now. I LOVE abstract art. My favorite abstract artist is Jackson Pollack. I loved his work. I really enjoyed Pablo Picasso’s Blue period. I loved the blue and purple tones in those pictures. There is still a lot I don’t understand but that is OK. Drawing in the windows today brought back memories from my classes.

The Definition of Abstract Art is defined as art that has no reference to any figurative reality. In its wider definition the term describes art that depicts real forms in a simplified or rather reduced way – keeping only an allusion of the original natural subject.

I bought some Crayola Window Crayons to decorate the windows for Christmas. I was going to buy some acrylic paint but I decided with Brittany that would be too messy well the window crayons can be just as messy. LOL But it was something that the kids and I enjoyed. I did the middle window. I am not the greatest artist but I did try to draw a Christmas Tree, Present, and Candy Cane. I even tried to write Merry Christmas Backward. That part didn’t show up in the window in the picture. Yesterday we painted coffee filters and let them dry then we turned them into snow flakes which I have put in the window. Now I can’t remember who the blogger was that gave me the idea on both it was the same gal. So thank you! If you are reading this let me know so I can edit this and give you credit back to your links as your window display was GORGEOUS!!

I finally figured out who it was that inspired me. So I am updated this post. Thank you Valerie for you ideas of the coffee filter fun and the window display!. In case you don’t know Valerie she has a blag named Frugal Family Fun

Next I will take you to Dakota working on his window. For some reason he felt the need to color the whole window. If you look close you can see where his two Christmas Trees are. I have no idea why he did the window this way but I told them they could do the window how they wanted to decorate it.

Now onto Mommy’s little Abstract Artist. I actually really love Brittany’s lines and scribbles. I love how much color she used. You probably won’t be able to see the part that looks like a ghost but I told her that and she would say spooky. LOL Another smiley face that she did herself she kept calling it Brad. Which of course is her older brother. Brittany’s window display just took me back to studying art and abstract art. There really is no rhyme or reason in her pictures. Yes she is two but I absolutely love her work. She loves to paint and draw and color. Who knows maybe I have a blossoming artist.

Do you have a favorite artist?

I love that you let your kids decorate the windows. Children’s art shouldn’t be relegated only to school halls and the front of the refrigerator.

They had a blast doing it. It will come off easy. I will let them do it again for valentines day. I got something planned for the window. The neighbors seemed to enjoy it as the drove passed they watched us decorate it. Brittany got a big kick out of it too. I have a few other windows in the house for her to draw on. You have to keep her hands and mind busy or she gets into trouble and she will color for a long time on the window. She used complete sentences tonight. Saying DJ made that. Mommy made that. I have their artwork all through the house. My daughter doesn’t want her stuff from Halloween to come down yet. DJ has Thanksgiving, Knights, and Ancient Egypt up too that he doesn’t want to come down. I love it I put it any where in the house that they want it to go.

Ah — and your son might have been thinking “Stained glass”. His window does have that effect.

I thought so too. He is really proud of it. I was rather surprised he colored the whole window. I didn’t think he would do that but he went to town. Which for him is awesome.

It actually looks really neat in the light when the sun is shining through. I absolutely love it.

What a great idea and what a talented family you have. I am a big fan of Picasso. In fact they have a Picasso exhibit going on right now at the Seattle Art Museum, I hope to visit this weekend. I will be thinking of your window, while I enjoy his work.

I would love to see the Picasso exhibit. One of these days I would like to go to Milwaukee and check out the Art Musuem there and go to Chicago’s Art Musuem again. I haven’t been there in ages.

You are welcome Valerie. My window doesn’t look as colorful now as my daughter got the snowflakes down and started smudging my window. lol
