Christmas Ham Dinner – Major Disappointment

I thought this year I would do something different and shop in town for a ham. It was on sale for 89 cents a pound and now I can clearly see why. I looked through the hams and thought they looked kind of fatty. I thought ok maybe it’s just that front part and the rest would be fine.

Well I bought a Cook’s Ham with a bone in it. Shank Portion maybe I am stupid and it’s suppose to be really fatty. However, I won’t knock Cook’s Ham because they really do have some great hams and when someone mentions Cooks Ham around here people say it’s good. That’s why I bought it.

Well I made my ham like I do every Christmas Day and had my husband start cutting into it. I said wow that’s a lot of fat. The further and further he got into the ham it was even more fattier. There was a major HUGE chunk that was all fat. Imagine if my inlaws would have been here I would have been mortified. As there may not have been enough ham.

I am serious not kidding you the ham was MORE fat then meat. How disappointing is that especially when you plan on making left overs and soup. I can tell you there isn’t anything left to the almost 10lb ham we got. The sad thing is my husband dropped the first plate with the best cuts on the floor so when he cut around the second time well there wasn’t cuts like the first.

I seriously hope your dinner was better then ours. On a good note the Cherry Fluff and Cheesy Crockpot Potatoes were AWESOME! Next year I think I will go with a Spiral Ham!

Thank you Susan! I enjoyed Christmas with the kids. I really enjoyed watching them open their presents and playing with their toys. It was great! I even enjoyed the dinner even though the ham was a flop. I hope you enjoyed your Christmas.

I’m sorry to hear that your Ham was so fatty – we just recently had a Cook’s Ham and it was delicious – granted it did have more fat than what we are used to, but not how you are describing. I’m so glad though that the rest of your food was yummy!

    Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Tammy. My friend said that Cook’s Ham is a little more salty and fatty. I was really shocked if you put your hand into a fist picture that being a chunk of fat that is how big one of the chunks were. I like Cook’s Ham they are really good but I never had a ham like that before.

Who would have known until you started cutting into it. Not your fault at all…being a thrifty shopper shows that you are far from dumb my sweet friend. Besides you could have made PB&J’s. It’s not what you have it’s who you share it with and if you get full…that’s the main thing. Oh and if it would have been me, I would have applied the 5 second rule and used that piece that fell. Little dirt never killed anyone that I’m aware of LOL. See I try and look on the bright side…this sounds like a fascinating dinner and you just go with the flow :) Merry Christmas :)

That’s true Thom. I thought it would have been better on the inside but you just can’t tell. What little ham we had was very good. The sides of the meal were fantastic. It was still one awesome dinner. We do have other left overs. I am trying to figure out what to make for supper tonight.

I am so sorry about the ham. My wife was going to go with a spiral. I spotted some kind of a Butt End that looked good. It was a little cheaper. We went with mine. It was delicious.Hardly no fat at all. But as long as you had a good meal with your family is all that matters. You can come over here for left overs. hahaha.

LOL I am on my way for those ham leftovers… It was still a nice meal. I must say I enjoyed our dinner and Christmas with the kids.

I was thinking of taking it back but I don’t think that would have done any good. Oh well at least what we had was really good and the sides were fantastic.
