Celebrating Birthday 2nd time
Well this morning I took DJ to school and I got the sweet “Bye Mommy I love you”. Melts my heart every time. Well we were walking to his classroom a couple kids said “Hey DJ, What’s up?”. DJ turned around acknowledged it but didn’t say hello. I looked at him and said “DJ your friend said hello, you should say hello”. Nope still didn’t. On my way out the school I got a little teary eyed. I guess you could say I was frustrated. Sometimes I feel I get the Dr Jeckyl Mr Hyde from him.
Well the therapist that works with the family today came over and we talked this morning. I explained what happened with the kids at school. She reminded me that is was the autism. I did the right thing trying to make him acknowledge it. She said sooner or later it may or may not click. Sometimes I seem to forget about the social part of autism. We talked about the behaviors yesterday and my deciding to take his toy away. She said I did the right thing. ( I hate to say this but it really worked! ) I have hope yet that this behavior modification will work
We quick stopped home to finish packing up the diaper bag and syncing my Mp3 player. Off we went to Grandpa and Grandma’s. Well the kids fell asleep. I hear this noise. I thought Brittany was choking and I scream to the kids and they say no she is fine. Well all of a sudden I thought I heard her throw up. I pulled off to the side of the road so I could check on her. YEP she threw up. I am not the puker cleaner upper. That is my husband. I had to do it myself because he was at work. EWWWWW I almost tossed my cookies. Finally we get to Grandpa and Grandma’s.
My parents had the cake out already. It was already starting to melt. It was a brownie ice cream cake. Not bad. Brittany didn’t want to touch it. She ate a couple bites. The reason she had another cake was my aunt and uncle couldn’t make it so they sent the topper home with some presents for her. The topper was Tinkerbell. I have pictures they will come once I get them from my dad. Then we opened her presents. She got a wagon filled with sand toys. YIPPEE something to take to the beach with us. If it warms up anytime soon. Then I said to my dad. Could I open that box I think it’s clothes. YES 3 cute outfits in there. I put one on her as she had thrown up on herself on our way down. Cutest little outfit. The third present was yet another ride on toy. It was a Disney Princess one. She loved it. Little bugger tries to stand on it.
DJ and I then went to UPS to send off my old blackberry. Then we went to Kohl’s. My dad gave me a $20.00 gift certificate. DJ wanted to look at shoes so we did. I didn’t like the boys sandals there so we went to the baby department. Found a cute pair of capri’s and a tshirt for Brittany. Then I got her a pair of earrings. Dakota was so well behaved that I got him a Duck. It was some stuffed toy that you pay $5.00 for and Kohl’s donates it somewhere.
Got back to my parents and we ate dinner. Dakota must have been over stimulated as he went in my parents room to watch cartoons. Mind you he was still awesome! Now why can’t more days be like this. I told him tonight he did an awesome job. I gave him his toy back but with a warning if the behavior changed it would get taken away again.
Here are some pictures from today. The first one is DJ and the second one is Brittany on her new Disney Princess car.

Wow! What a busy day!! I would definitely have lost my cookies cleaning up the puke. Glad to hear everything else went much more smoothly.

Thanks Anne. She loves it better then the one we bought her. More busy I think. More noise!
What a great day you really hand and the kids are just adorable. I’m glad the therapist said you did the right thing. I’m sure that is comforting to you. I have to say that I think his response is typical sometimes with kids. They just acknowledge and don’t say anything. I think we just want our kids to have manners

You are right there. One thing I am really thankful for is that my kids are well mannered. So somewhere along the lines I did something right.
My son ignores people when they greet him too! I does embarrass me. Now I try to brief him before hand, such as every day on the way to school, I remind him that the person who opens the car door is going to say, “Good morning Jonas!” and he should say, “Good morning!” back to her. Sometimes it works.

That’s another thing the therapist suggested. Is give him warnings before we leave and before there is going to be a change. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. But I like that idea.
Beautiful kids. Your doing so much to help him. I know he feels it.
