Busy Thursday

I have so much to do today. I have cleaning this morning. I can’t seem to kick my butt in gear. I have a meeting at 10 AM with a lady from the Girl Scout Office. Hmmm you wonder I bet as my daughter is only 1. Well I heard there is no Daisy Girl Scout Leader in another town close by and well I can’t have that. LOL So I decided to become a Daisy Girl Scout Leader. Besides Kindergarten age is a fun age. I will have lots of practice in before Brittany gets there. LOL I have a meeting with SSI later this afternoon and then some orientation for a job later tonight.

Yesterday I had a meeting with our case manager for Dakota and the therapist that comes into my home to work with the family. We talked alot about Dakota and his sensory needs. I suggested a weighted blanket but the case manager said Dakota was too active. I personally still think it would help to calm him at times as it applies deep pressure. Then there was talk about building Dakota a bed that has a fort on it. As he likes to be confined in small places. They also talked about putting a hammock swing in his room. So we shall see. For the time being I asked my dad who is pretty crafty at wood working to help me. We talked about making a play house for Dakota and having the roof slanted and a later on the side of the roof that he could climb. It might deter him from his tree climbing and it would provide a safer place for him to play. I found out that hammerinng is a good for Dakota and his sensory needs. He needs really hard working activity. We also talked about putting a hammock swing outside in the tree for now. There was also talk about getting a refrigerator box and letting him have it as he would climb in the boxes. Dakota loves going in boxes. So we shall see what happens. I never expected talking about his room like that. They said it would be his place and place for him to get his sensory needs.

My neighbors took Dakota to the park yesterday while I was out running some errands. I got to have lunch with some friends and then Brittany and I met my other friends at the park. We stayed there for 2 hours. Dakota didn’t seem to play on the toys there. He walked around looking for bugs. He is currently obsessed with bug hunting. LOL

Well I suppose I should get off here and get cleaning so I can be ready by the time the lady gets here.

Hope you all have a great Thursday!

What about a weighted vest? I agree a weighted balnket cuold do the trick, but this might get around the therapist’s objections. Goodl luck with the Daisy leader thing – my dd has been in Girl Scouts since 1st grade, she is going into 11th. I was her leader for many of those years.

I thought about a weighted vest but he might just take that off. We also talked about weighted ankle and foot weights. She suggested maybe 20 minutes an hour but I am not sure about that. I don’t think he would wear those. The blanket I would more so use at night after a long day of play. Just to calm him more and apply the deep pressure. I wouldn’t use it during the day unless he absolutely wanted to. I do see where your coming from. There be more talks about this during the week. So I will update as I get them.

Well from what I gather Brittany cannot go with me. No other siblings can come along. So that means my oldest gets to baby sit… I have to check into that a little more. I am having a pretty good Thursday so far. I got the house cleaned. Now I am ready to bake and start Day 2 of the EAs Active. I tell you my legs are killing me today. LOL

Thanks Maria. I am really excited about it. I already have a co leader to work with. I get to meet her at one of the meetings later this month. It looks like it’s going to be really fun. The girls are able to see candy and the cookies. So I am really excited. This is going to be a fun experience.

Uh, cleaning, it stinks but must be done. I don’t mind it so much because of the end result. You have SUCH a busy day, but it all ends up getting done, one way or another. :)

Isn’t that the truth. LOL It’s not really as busy as it sounds. The meeting went well. Now I just have to wait for the phone call and some orientation tonight and then I can totally relax.

We had a weighted blanket for bedtime, but it was really hot and this child already is very warm blooded. So, it was a strike out for us. We stuck with deep pressure message and joint compression at bedtime. Good luck – sometimes it is trial and error with this type of thing.

You are exactly right. I do joint compressions once in awhile. He don’t let me really. I should try starting that up again and see if he will let me. Your right it is trial and error. I could buy the blanket and he may not like it. He had one and loved it! That is until the rice spilled out.
