Algoma’s Night Out Was A Blast
Algoma’s Night out was July 31, 2012. It was a Tuesday and the weather was perfect. Not to hot, not humid, and not to cold. It is an evening for fun, learning the resources that are available to you, getting to know those in your community. I am sure there is something I am forgetting.
The one thing I noticed that wasn’t there this year was the Bomb Squad. Not sure if they were on a call or they just couldn’t make it. It’s really neat because you get to see it in action.
My kids always look forward to Eagle Three landing. It’s the helicopter that needs to transport people quickly to the hospital. I finally had a chance to look into the back of the helicopter. The guy chuckled when I said. Well if I ever have to go in this thing. I hope I am knocked out. It is a very tight and small space and I think I would be freaking.
I apologize that these are not the best pictures of Eagle Three.
The next couple are the fire trucks from Alogoma that were out and displayed. Would have had a picture of the Black and Yellow Algoma Rescue but the fire department and rescue squad got a call earlier during the event and had to leave for a little bit.
Meet Coastie! This little guy teaches the kids about boat safety. The kids really get a kick out of Coastie!
In the harbor the Coast Guard Boat was docked. First time I have gotten to see one up close. I didn’t dare go onto the boat as I don’t like boats and water. I was a nervous wreck until my daughter was back on land.
Next the State Trooper brought out the drug dog and did a presentation on how the dog reacts when there is drugs. It was quick but very interesting.
There were also Algoma Police Cars, The new Algoma Police Bikes, The Swat Team, Army National Guard (which had a awesome rock climbing wall for the kids), the sheriffs, the DNR, and there were many other places in the Youth Club. The kids and adults could Walk through the youth club and collect different information and free things. There was inflatables this year for the kids to play on. Free hotdogs, soda, water and ice cream.
Thanks to all those involved making this a great night!

That sounds like a really great night out. And how fun to watch the drug dog at work!

It was a really great night out. Every part of it is really fun for the kids. They try to get new things each year at the event.
Those dogs are good at what they do, aren’t they? Coastie is adorable!

Coastie actually talks and is a little sassy. But the kids love it. The dogs are great at what they do. My husband knew the state trooper that was there with the K9.
What a great event. I love how you have the opportunity to see what the community offers for safety.

It is awesome. I know they have it nation wide for National Night Out. Some participate and some don’t. We never get tired of it. We go year after year.
