Algoma’s Night Out

Author: I know you have heard me mention Algoma’s Night Out. Well let me tell you what it is and share some pictures with you. Have you ever heard of National Night Out. It’s normally a Tuesday in August. Well it works with Neighborhood Watch and is designed to learn to bring fire safety as well community awareness to the community. It’s a really fun night. During the year the planning committee gets together and we plan on different themes and ideas to have. This years theme was Safety. The grade school kids had made posters and they were hung all over town.
The Mayor is normally who opens Algoma’s Night Out. The school has their Jazz band play. There is free games and food. There was an area set up for kids games. We had hot dogs, booyah (which I didn’t get to try again as my husband was too late to bring some back to me) and root beer floats. Inside the youth club we had different participants with booths. There was the sheriff’s department, our local police department, different people from Human Services, Food Pantries, Coast Gaurd, and etc. They had things such as papers and other stuff to give away to the families.
Out side there was the bomb squad with their robot. This is awesome and I don’t think my husband got pictures. Go figure leave the picture taking to my husband… I think I will rethink that one next year… There was a Haz Mat team… Police cars, Fire Trucks, DNR, Emergency Management, oh yeah and the Dunk Tank. Dunk a Cop!! LOL Yep that’s what they call it.
I started out helping with making root beer floats. Wowsers that table was busy all night! Then I stayed and managed the dunk tank. That was a blast. This year we had some different kids there. Some of the younger kids managed to hit the target to dunk the Cops… LOL To see the faces of excitement on them and hear the giggles was just wonderful. I really enjoyed it this year. And of course the kids of the family got free dunks. It was busy non stop there chasing balls handing them out. I got some pictures.
Oh yeah and I can’t forget that Eagle 3 landed. Eagle 3 is the helicopter that kinda like a flight for life, care flight, or I am not sure the other names that people might relate the Emergency Medical Helicopters. We watched it land and I swore it was going to land on the edge of the hill. It didn’t it landed exactly where it was suppose.
I do got pictures but for some reason they seem Hazy! We were right down on the lake so I am not sure if it’s due to humidity, wind or haze. (By the way I blame my husband for the pictures as I was to busy. I am going to ask for copies so maybe I can share some more if I get them)
I am going to start out with Coastie as this is Dakota’s Favorite! This was the little boat from the Coast Guard. (Note I took this one from my phone)
The next few pictures are of Eagle 3
This was the dunk take. First Lucky Guy who got to sit in the tank was Algoma’s Chief!! We had to stop as Eagle 3 landed though as there was a lot of bigger kids and the balls were going on top of the hill while Eagle 3 was landing and I didn’t want it to interfere with the fireman doing their job or something happening while landing. So the Chief got a break!! LOL
This lucky guy is the Kewaunee County Sheriff. He sure did have a lot of fun. I think he kinda cheated wearing a wet suit!! I think he got dunked the most out of all three that were in it. He sure did seem like he was having fun though.
So that’s all the pictures I got! If I can get more I will share them. I know one of the gals was walking around taking pictures. If all else fails I will post some pictures from the previous year!

My phone only too the Coastie picture. The rest were taken from my digi cam. They were a bit hazy. I am not sure if it was hazy at the lake or not. I know it got really humid last night. BLECK.

Eagle Three comes every year weather pending and emergencies pending. It’s really nice to see it. I believe in Door County they give helicopter rides. I might be thinking of plane rides though and not helicopter. I am not sure they do one of the two. Thanks for stopping by.

I wonder why it takes so long and freezes over. I wonder if it has to do with the wordpress update. I know recently people were having trouble viewing my website in internet explorer and the update fixed it.
