5 Free Useful Educational Apps

I have some useful educational apps to use in our homeschool day. Today I have stumbled across many that are new to me. I have not totally used them but I thought I would share them as I find them to be really useful.

Journey North – is a FREE internet based program that explores aspects of seasonal change. What I found interesting was that it engages kids global study of wildlife migration and seasonal change. This looks to be great for all kids K – 12. You can share your observations with classmates across North America. Students track the coming of spring through the migrations of monarch butterflies, robins, humming birds, whooping cranes, gray whales, bald eagles, and other birds and animals. They can track plant life,  changes in sunlight, and other natural events.

What I also found intriguing about this app was that you could find migration maps, pictures, lesson plans, activities and information to help students make local observations and fit them into a global context. From the pictures it looks like students can compile a report. I do plan on using this during the spring. We have bald eagles, cranes, robins, blue jays, monarch butterflies, and humming birds. It will be a lot of fun to track these.

Learn Programming: Coding Tutorial – I myself have been wanting to learn coding. My son also wants to learn coding. This app can teach you Python, Django, HTML, and CSS. You will find over 31 lectures and over 2 + hours of free video content. You can watch the course while you are offline. You can watch the video lectures in multiple speeds. I think for us this will be a nice place to start before we pay for any kind of programming class.

You can learn Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, and English. There are no ads or hidden charges in this app. I haven’t really played around with this but I plan to in the near future as it looks promising.
