2013 Blue Ribbon Awards and a Few of My Favorites

This has been one awesome year being on the TOS Crew. I have gotten the chance to  check out many different types of curriculum that I may or may not have looked at before. I have been blessed with finding new things that work with my kids. I have also found curriculum I have been looking for in different subjects for a long time. Watching my kids blossom and enjoy the different reviews was very rewarding.

The 2013 Blue Ribbon Awards The Old Schoolhouse Review Crew are awards that were voted by the TOS Crew as our favorites. The choices were very hard because you could only pick one for each category and well in a couple subjects I had a few favorites.

I highly suggest checking out the list for the different categories of awards. Maybe you will be introduced to new companies or see some of your favorites that have won. It’s a great way to find new curriculum as well.

Thank you for allowing me to be on the TOS Crew this year. Thank you to the companies that participated in offering the reviews to us. In all honesty I don’t believe there was any curriculum I didn’t like.

My Absolute Favorite Curriculum:

The Notgrass Company was one of my favorites for history. The first time we tried America The Beautiful, I fell in love with this curriculum. This set teaches American history, geography, and literature. The combination of the books, the text book, the work books, the hands of activity at the end of the week is the perfect blend. Even though there is different books it likes a really awesome unit study combination. Click the title America the Beautiful to read my review.

Math-U-See was one of my favorite Math curriculums. We used the Alpha level with my daughter. She took to it right away. In the beginning I was worried that we would be done in the 30 days because she wanted to do a chapter a day and at times wanted to keep going. There are times we move through a chapter a day and other times we slow down. I go at her pace. She loves using the different manipulatives with them. This program doesn’t go by grade level. I plan to stick with this with my daughter as she has been excelling very well with this. To read my review click on Alpha Level.

See The Light  was my favorite Art curriculum. The DVD we used was called Paper Jungle. I liked that each day you did a pieces to complete your work. The art history you learn was very intriguing. I liked that we could do our assignment along with her , and pause the DVD when we needed too. I also like the scriptures she read at the end of each day too. I have a couple other DVDs that we are going to start in the near future. To read my review click on the hyper link to Paper Jungle.

Apologia was my favorite for science. We reviewed Exploring Creation with Chemistry and Physics. All the hands on activities is what had kept my kids interested in science. I loved the notebooks that went along with the readings. I loved that the lessons were all laid out for me. To read my review click on Exploring Creation with Chemistry and Physics.
