@1800Flowers Thumbs Down – @ProFlowers Thumbs Up
I have been debating about writing this for a while now. After today I thought it was best to be told.
A very good friend of mine has been sick. She also just lost her mother in June the day after my Father In Law had a motorcycle accident and she lost her brother in February. I thought it would be nice to use one of my gift certificates to buy her a Plum Crazy floral arrangement. I picked this arrangement because of all the purple. The purple vase and the flowers. It was cheery looking.
Well I called her to let her know a package would be there. The first words out of her mouth were Stacie I know these are not the flowers you picked out. She also told me the flowers came from Scolari’s Grocery store in Yearington, NV. First off she knows I would NEVER order from there. They have the worst arrangements. I then proceeded to ask her how she liked the vase she said it’s clear. I was like umm it’s suppose to be purple. I sent her the link of what the flowers looked like she said nope it’s nothing like that.
She called Scolari’s and asked why the water was purple? She asked why she didn’t get the flowers. The lady at Scolari’s said they didn’t have it so they did a $45 dollar arrangement. 3 of the 5 names were spelt wrong on the card. The flowers started dying in 2 days.
I was so mad I called 1800flowers. He kept offering to send something else. I said no I want what I paid for. I went round and round and I was told by the first guy that I would get the $50 dollars back. A few days went by and 1800flowers called me. They offered to call my friend and apologize. They only gave me $30 dollars back. I was a little disappointed but I used gift certificates. I said I would have rather had the florist order the flowers to be delivered a different day. Nobody called me to tell they didn’t have the flowers. 1800flowers made the decision for me.
A few more days went by before they called my friend. They apologized to her and the lady said they would contact me and have me pick something else to send her. Almost a week went by before 1800flowers contacted me. I talked to a woman on the phone and explained the whole story. Towards the end of the conversation she was rushing me off the phone. I picked out another set of flowers called Fields Of Europe. I was rushed to make this decision. She told me they would be delivered the 4th. Today is the 7th and no flowers were delievered. They told me they HAD to use Scolari’s becaue it was the only florist near that zip code and they weren’t going to pay UPS.
I tried to call 1800flowers today and the line was nothing but busy. I am so digusted. My friend is disgusted. Her mother and sister both sent her flowers and gift baskets from Proflowers that were absolutely gorgeous and let me tell you it was EXACTLY what was ordered. She got a gift basket from Proflowers that had apples, a couple were dented and brown and Proflowers sent another basket immediately with no fuss. Now that is customer service. There was no run around at all!
1800flowers has lost my business for good. I will not be using ANY gift certificates I have from them. I will NOT do any promotions or blog contests for them ever!
Proflowers will be my choice for sending flowers.

We ordered flowers from 1800Flowers before and was disappointed with what we got for the price we paid. I don’t think I’d order from them again, either.

That’s a shame Kailani. It really sucks they show these wonderful pictures but yet you don’t get what you pay for. Especially for the price one pays.
That is absolutely horrible, and I am so sorry you had to deal with that. I work in customer service (and believe it or not I worked for 800flowers call center during their peak seasons before, and I believe they have since switched companies), that is absolutely inexcusable, and in fact if I have had a death for family or close friend, or something else that flowers are needed for, than I will not be using them. Thanks for sharing.

I use to work at home with customer service and I bet I know which company you worked for. Unless you did it outside the home. Your right it is inexcusable. They have a clause that if the florist doesn’t have the flowers they may substitute. I wonder how many people read the fine print. It didn’t even meat the 7 day guarantee for freshness. I am so sick of their run around it’s not even funny. I have worked in customer service before too and this is just totally wrong. I believe in good customer service and trying to go out of the way to make the customer happy.
Wow! Sorry your experience was so bad, but thanks for sharing the info with the rest of us…

It’s really a shame isn’t it Grampy. I am so disappointed and my friend is beyond disappointed and angry. She has a right especially since she was the receiver.
The challenge with any business model that relies on local florists for fulfillment (like 1-800-Flowers) is there’s no transparency. You didn’t know which florist would fill the order, nor were you plainly told the container and flowers would be substituted.
ProFlowers products are delivered via UPS and FedEx so they have more control over substitutions, but the flowers do not arrive arranged so the recipients have to assemble their own gifts.
When it comes to floral gifts, to get the best service and price value, order direct from a florist right in the recipient’s town. I happen to know the owner of Twigs in Yearington and am sure her company would have delivered what they promised.
